The emergency hormonal contraceptives available at Penclawdd Pharmacy are for women who've had unprotected sex within the last five days. Our pharmacist will advise if one of the morning after pills is suitable for you after helping you understand all of your options. The sooner you take the morning after pill after unprotected sex, the greater the chances of avoiding pregnancy. The morning after pill is intended for emergency use and should not be used on a regular basis
We offer a discharge medication review service, so if you have been discharged from hospital recently, we can double check your surgery has had the right information from the hospital and you are getting the correct drugs. Contact our pharmacist and supply him with a copy of the discharge letter.
Getting a doctor’s appointment that’s convenient can be challenging, but with our free NHS Wales-funded Common Ailments Service you can save both you and your GP time.
About the service
If you or one of your dependent children are suffering from any of the following conditions, our Common Ailments Services enables us to offer guidance and, in many cases, treatment, free of charge.
Can I access this service?
Whether you’re over 16 or are seeking treatment for a child under 16, if you live in Wales and are registered with a GP Practice in Wales you can register for the Common Ailments Service. If we feel you or your child need a prescription, or if we’re unable to provide treatment for your condition, we’ll advise you to make an appointment with your GP.
How can I access the service?
If you’re suffering from any of the conditions listed, just pop in and ask one of our friendly team about the Common Ailments Service. In some cases, your GP surgery may refer you to us directly. One of our friendly pharmacists will offer you a private consultation to discuss your symptoms. You’ll need to register your details, including your name, date of birth and postcode – please bring a form of identification with you if you’re not a current patient of ours.
What happens next?
The pharmacist will check your details against the NHS Wales Demographic Service just to confirm your eligibility for the service. If the pharmacist decides you need a medicine or product to treat your symptoms, they will provide it to you free of charge. They’ll also notify your GP.
How long does it take?
The registration process usually takes around 15 minutes, and we will do our very best not to keep you waiting.
Please note
For your own health and wellbeing, you can only register for the Common Ailments Service at one pharmacy at a time. You cannot access the Common Ailments Service to receive treatment for a condition for which you have already received treatment from your GP.
